Alpha Xi Chapter

PURPOSE

Epsilon Pi Tau is the International Honor Society for Professions in Technology.  Epsilon Pi Tau recognizes academic excellence of students in fields devoted to the study of technology and the preparation of practitioners for the technology professions.

ACTIVITIES

The Alpha Xi Chapter of Epsilon Pi Tau holds activities throughout the year.  They include an annual banquet, sponsored lectures and service activities.

MEMBERSHIP

Potential members are invited by a committee based on their scholarship, character, and leadership. Membership is open to all eligible 2nd semester Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students in Industrial Technology or Agricultural Systems Technology at Iowa State University. The academic requirements for membership are as follows:

  • Undergraduates must be ranked in the upper 35 % of their class and have a cumulative gradepoint of 3.0 or higher.
  • Undergraduates must also have completed 16 credits of major or relevent course sequence.
  • Graduate Students must have completed at least nine hours of graduate coursework with a minimum cumulative gradepoint of 3.3.

MEETINGS

Epsilon Pi Tau meetings are held at least once each semester. Initiation of new members and the annual banquet are held in the fall.

NATIONAL EPSILON PI TAU

Epsilon Pi Tau has inducted 75,000 members since its inception, with about 16,000 active members. Technology has been the common and unifying theme.  It connects a highly diverse membership.  Some are preparing for or practicing in technical and professional positions.  Others study and continue a professional engagement with the phenomenon of technology as it affects individuals and society. Individual members may benefit from the synergism resulting from this highly diverse membership.

As the premier academic and professional honors group for technology programs in higher education, workforce development programs, and professionals in practice, Epsilon Pi Tau has provided honor and distinction to members, institutions, programs, and individuals throughout the world for 75 years.  Members reside in every state of the United States and in 49 other nations.
