Spend your summer at Iowa State University in beautiful Ames, Iowa and have a great research experience.

Stipend: $400 per week for ten weeks

Travel: The program will refund student travel costs up to a predetermined limit. Our team will work with each participant individually to arrange travel.

Housing: Program participants will be housed in an on-campus four-bedroom apartment with other REU student participants. Free campus housing and a generous subsistence allowance will be provided.

Presentation at a scientific meeting: Students will have the opportunity to attend and present at a scientific meeting of their choice, with reimbursement for travel and expenses paid by the BioGeo REU program (up to a limit to be determined by the program directors).  Because the appropriate conference may occur outside the dates of the program, these funds are available through the following academic year.  Students can elect to do this in consultation with their faculty mentor.  Previous students have attended the annual meeting of the American Geophysics Union (AGU) and the Soil Science Society of America annual meeting, for example.

Eligibility*: Undergraduate students studying environmental or agricultural sciences or engineering and related disciplines are eligible. Participants must be US citizens or permanent residents. Students with strong academic records in lecture and laboratory courses applicable to any of the three thrust areas described above will be given preference. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
*Please note, an undergraduate student is defined as a student returning to undergraduate programs in the fall.

Notification Schedule: The deadline for application submission is Friday, March 23. First offers will be made by late-March with the 2012 program participant group finalized by April 13.

Program Directors: Dr. Sunday Tim and Dr. Amy Kaleita of the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department at Iowa State University
