Thanks to many generous supporters of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, over $125,000 in departmental scholarships are awarded annually to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in Agricultural Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Agricultural Systems Technology, and Industrial Technology.

Several scholarships may be awarded based on need. You need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) form either over the web or through the ISU Office of Student Financial Aid.

Transfer Students

Scholarships are available for all Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering undergraduate and graduate students who are or will be participating in study abroad experiences including student exchange programs, study abroad travel courses, and international professional development.

Iowa Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Council Scholarship (for ITec Occupational Safety students; and students pursuing the Safety Certificate and declaring an interest in safety/health as a career)

Safety student that has an interest in a career in construction, highway, industrial or agricultural safety and health and display need and/or academic excellence. Students are interviewed by members of the Governor’s Occupational Safety and Health Advisory Council.

These scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students on the basis of academic excellence, leadership skills, interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated interest in seed science and/or the seed industry. ISA will award several scholarships, including one Bill Latham Memorial Scholarship. Additionally, the ISU Seed Science Center will award one Lisa Shepherd-Jenkins Memorial Scholarship, and ICIA will award one scholarship. The recipients of these scholarships will also be selected by the Seed Science Scholarship Committee. The minimum scholarship award is $1,000.

Two Iowa Seed Association (ISA) scholarships will be awarded to students who have declared Seed Science as a secondary major. The remaining ISA scholarships will be open to students in any major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (including Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering) with a demonstrated interest in seed science or in a career related to the seed industry. In addition, an outstanding student classified as a senior will receive an extra $500 as a special scholarship. Students previously awarded two ISA scholarships are not eligible for a 2023 ISA scholarship but may be eligible for one of the other scholarships.

2023 ISA Seed Sci Scholarship Application

Minority Scholars Program is funded by the USDA-NIFA HEC Foundation. It is a scholarship and experiential program for incoming students, sophomores, juniors or transfer students.

The program offers an SEL (Student Experiential Learning) opportunity that enables scholars to build the skills and knowledge needed to advance their study, contribute to careers, and enter graduate education in food & agricultural science disciplines. Examples of opportunities may include undergraduate research, apprenticeships, internships, and study abroad programs relevant to the scholar’s major.
