The Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department at Iowa State University offers a training program for multicultural freshman scholars beginning in fall 2009.

The objective of this USDA program is to:

Encourage outstanding students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the food and agricultural sciences to pursue and complete baccalaureate degrees in these disciplines.

The emphasis of our program in the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Department is to:

Train technologists and engineers for employment in the biofuels industry.

Participants in this program will:

  • Train for employment as engineers or technologists in the Bioenergy workforce.
  • Major in industrial technology (I Tech), agricultural systems technology (AST), biological systems engineering (BSE), or agricultural engineering (AE) at Iowa State university.
  • Receive $4500 per year (renewable for four years) for educational expenses such as tuition, room and board, books and fees.
  • Have opportunities for bioenergy internships, international travel, completing research projects, and participation in professional conferences.
