Dan is a master’s student working on a computer model to aid in the design and analysis of vegetative treatment systems for use in treatment of wastewater from beef cattle feedlots.

Vegetative treatment systems are a new technology that have recently been allowed to be utilized for the treatment of wastewater produced in beef feedlots.

Dan’s research is funded by the EPA and the Iowa DNR. The vegetative treatment systems constructed for this project are the first non-basin treatment systems permitted by the Iowa DNR. Developing a model of the performance of these systems is an important step in getting full approval for vegetative treatment systems.
